When I began rowing I only ever drank water during training and outings. I learned later that prolonged exercise can lead to loss of potassium from the blood – an “electrolyte imbalance”. Luckily mine was caught in time by my doctor and since I started using sports drinks it hasn’t been a problem. Bananas are another good source of potassium and I recommend them too.
